A summer festival of beautiful music and world-class artists
plus four-star resort accommodation in the scenic Austrian Alps!
Registration deadline: October 10, 2012
Dear Spivey Hall Music Lover,
What a discovery!
In June, I visited the Schubertiade festival in the tiny Austrian town of Schwarzenberg, a 90-minute drive from Zurich, Switzerland. Founded some 30 years ago to celebrate the music of Franz Schubert, the festival was strongly recommended to me by several Spivey Hall guest artists who praised its tranquil setting, magnificent mountain views, and the high quality of the classical musicians who perform there.
They were right. It’s truly an idyllic place, and the performances I heard were deeply satisfying. I would love to introduce you to Schubertiade Schwarzenberg – and next summer is our opportunity!
I cordially invite you to take part in the 2013 Schubertiade Friends of Spivey Hall Travel Program (June 16 – 24, 2013). This tour package is a tremendous value: tickets to seven Schubertiade concerts featuring music by Schubert, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Dvořák, and others; three meals a day for six days; accommodation at a four-star resort, just a short bus ride away from the festival; sight-seeing excursions with a private English-speaking guide, including a boat ride on Lake Constance, and several museum visits; and hotel accommodation in Zurich our last night together.

And what artists we shall hear! Four internationally-renowned pianists in recital – András Schiff, Paul Lewis, Till Fellner, and Piotr Anderszewski – plus two acclaimed string quartets (the Pavel Haas Quartet from Czech Republic, and the Ebène Quartet from France) and Schubert’s popular song cycle Die schöne Müllerin by up-and-coming German tenor Maximilian Schmitt. All performances take place in the Angelika Kauffmann Hall, a modern venue with wonderful acoustics – and occasionally cows in the surrounding deep-green pastures you can see through the windows (a pastoral setting indeed)!
What’s more, you’ll enjoy all of this in the company of other Spivey Hall patrons who love great music as you do. Our Spivey Hall tour groups from the past three summers have loved the beautiful locations, the food, and the entire festival atmosphere. We also appreciate the convenience of being comfortably situated in one scenic place, and how well our excursions are organized. Above all, we take lasting pleasure in sharing the experiences of hearing excellent music and travelling together.
The Schubertiade’s popularity creates heavy demand for tickets, thus the registration deadline for this trip is quite soon – October 10, 2012. So don’t delay: spaces are limited, and a number of past Travel Program Friends are already committed. If you have any questions about our trip and travel plans, we’d be glad to answer them – just call (678) 466-4200.
Please join us! I hope to have the pleasure of traveling and hearing great music with you!
