Julian Lage Trio

         Julian Lage, guitar

         Jorge Roeder, bass

         Kenny Wollesen, percussion

The Julian Lage Trio is an improvising ensemble featuring electric guitar (Telecaster), acoustic bass, and drums. Playing original music as well as standards of the American jazz and folk traditions, the Trio draws influence from modern jazz guitar trio of Jim Hall as well as operating as sonic laboratory for exploring the integration of acoustic and electric instruments in an improvising context.

“Running the gamut from covers of early-20th-century standards to originals inspired by 1970s-era rock” (Richard Bienstock, Rolling Stone), the Julian Lage Trio performs selections from its forthcoming 2016 recording, Arclight, which, says “the consummately versatile six-stringer” Lage,“‘focuses on my love for the electric guitar, especially the [Fender] Telecaster. And even more specifically, it’s centered around a jazz trio.’”

“There’s a disarming spirit of generosity in the musicianship of Julian Lage… a guitarist with roots tangled up in jazz, folk, classical, and country music,” declares The New York Times. A 2010 Grammy Award nominee for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and hailed as a child prodigy since the beginning, Julian Lage “sounds like nothing else on the map” (The Boston Globe).

“Riveting… gives the music tremendous vitality… thrilling to see” (The New Yorker)

Already garnering rave reviews from critics, Arclight is “jazz that glows with a simple intensity that throws light on what’s possible with six strings and an unlimited imagination” (London Jazz News).
