Program

Ruddigore, or The Witch’s Curse, Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic parody of the Victorian gothic romance novel. A beautiful orphaned heroine, a shy suitor with a secret, a sailor whose heart isn’t quite as golden as it appears, a lovelorn girl driven to madness, a wicked baronet, a family curse, a haunted ancestral manor and all the other elements of a brooding story by Brontë or Poe or Stoker are turned topsy-turvy by the sharp wit of Gilbert and the effervescent music of Sullivan. Menace becomes hilarity, wrongs are righted, and even the ancestral specter gets to live happily ever after.
