Christiane Karg, soprano
Malcolm Martineau, piano

Pre-concert Talk at 2:00 PM by Dr. Kurt-Alexander Zeller

Spivey Hall’s presentation of soprano Christiane Karg and pianist Malcolm Martineau, scheduled for this Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 3 PM, unfortunately cannot take place as planned, due to illness which prevents Ms. Karg from traveling from Germany for her North American recital debut here.

Give the demands of her schedule this spring in Europe, Christiane’s Spivey Hall recital must be postponed to a future season.

Spivey Hall’s Patron Services staff will communicate via email and telephone with patrons who have been issued tickets for this performance.  We sincerely regret any inconvenience this unavoidable change may cause.

“A ravishing performance by Christiane Karg” (The Guardian). “Her exquisite soprano voice and level of interpretative sensitivity were outstanding” (Opera News).

Brilliant Bavarian soprano Christiane Karg is “a gorgeous, gifted singer and actress” (Frankfurter Alegemeine Zeitung).  With acclaimed appearances at London’s Wigmore Hall and Vienna’s Musikverein and glowing reviews for her Frankfurt Opera triumph in Debussy’s Pélléas et Mélisande to her credit, she makes her American recital debut at Spivey Hall.

Born in Feuchtwangen, Bavaria, Christiane Karg studied singing at the Salzburg Mozarteum and at the Music Conservatory in Verona. She is a member of the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera where her roles include Susanna, Musetta, Pamina, Servilia, Zdenka (Arabella), the title role of La Calisto. She returns to Frankfurt this season to sing Mélisande in a new Claus Guth production of Pelleas and Mélisande and for her role debut as Adèle (Die Fledermaus).

Recognized as one of the leading accompanists of his generation, Malcolm Martinue has worked with many of the world’s greatest singers. He has presented his own series at the Wigmore Hall (a Britten and a Poulenc series and Decade by Decade – 100 years of German Song broadcast by the BBC) and at the Edinburgh Festival (the complete lieder of Hugo Wolf). He has appeared throughout Europe, North America, Australia, and at the Aix en Provence, Vienna, Edinburgh, Schubertiade, Munich and Salzburg Festivals.
