Il Brasso Magnifico
Holiday Brass

FREE
Founded in 2008 by Mark Williamson and Steven Sherrill, Il Brasso Magnifico promotes the cause of brass chamber music in the Southeast and elsewhere. The group’s performing members are leading brass musicians in the Southeast, including full-time and part-time members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, current and former members of other leading regional and national orchestras, and leading free-lance players in Atlanta and elsewhere. The ensemble’s repertoire is focused on original compositions and arrangements written by Sherrill, Williamson, and other contributors, and on works which employ combinations of brass instruments different from the traditional brass quintet of two trumpets, horn in F, trombone, and tuba. In keeping with British and European brass-instrument tradition, the group uses the E-flat “alto horn” to the virtual exclusion of F horns.
Il Brasso Magnifico is dedicated to recordings and performances that are free to the general public. Its new album, Molto Groovissimo, can be downloaded free from www.ilbrassomagnifico.org, where additional information about the group is also available.
